Course Description

 

Introduction to Guided Implant Surgery

Delegates will be educated on the principles of Computer Guided Implant Surgery and Prosthetic Restoration, from a sound foundation of the knowledge required, data acquisition, manipulation, and utilisation for planning of placement guides with specific surgical protocols.  The use of planning software will be described.

Access to clinical support with an experienced implant surgeon who can mentor and support cases that you treat in your own Practice.

Delegates receive a prosthetic kit as part of the course fee.

Aims & Objectives

  • Delegates will understand the basic principles of guided surgery, pros and cons.
  • Delegates will understand the comparison to conventional surgery.

  • Delegates will understand how to design a full guided surgical guide, using Straumann AXS and Smile in a Box.
  • Delegates will understand the implants that are suitable for guided surgery, including the new iExcel range from Straumann.
  • Delegates will understand the surgical procedures and witness a live surgery in the Education Facility.

Course Description

While traditional implant protocols are commonly taught, the MSc Specialist Practice of Restorative Aesthetic Dentistry and Implantology approaches implantology from a restorative perspective.

The program focuses on developing treatment plans that are guided by restorative needs, integrating implants as part of the solution.

The programme is designed to o er contemporary face to face and digital learning as well as close 1 to 1 mentorship with live patients. It also explores immediate loading and placement techniques, utilizing both screw-retained and cement-retained prostheses.

Year 1 – 1 day a month to include:
• Lecture Programme and Clinical Skills development (Phantom head
Training)
• Supervised Clinical Practice
• Self Study
Year 2 – 1 day a month to include:
• Tutorials with Dissertation Supervisor
• Dissertation writing

As part of your PART TIME MSc programme, you will be placed in a University Approved Implant Practice where you will have the opportunity to observe and perform clinical dentistry including dental implant treatment. The experience you will gain will allow you to meet the requirements of your Clinical Professional Portfolio.

As part of your clinical practice placement, you will:

  • Be placed in an Implant Clinic under an Implant Mentor
  • The surgery environment will be fully digital with Intra Oral Scanners and CBCT.
  • You will have an opportunity to take part in implant surgery under direct supervision
  • You will have the opportunity to assist in implant surgery and we aim to allow you to place at least 10 implants.
  • You will complete a Clinical Portfolio

Aims & Objectives:

The MSc programme is divided into separate modules. This ensures that you complete the requirements of the MSc Learning Outcomes.
The modules are integrated within each of the separate course units. The course is designed in 12 face to face days to advance the learning of each delegate through the programme.

This two day hands-on course run at Lodge Training provides an insight into Mike’s unique approach to modern day ceramic.

Costing £1950 this is an all inclusive package including tuition fees, use of equipment & materials, overnight accommodation & meals at the luxurious Angel Hotel in the beautiful town of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire within the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Course Overview

DAY 1

Consultation: Conducting your exam including assessment of occlusion and biotype, what to look out for, formulating and costing a treatment plan, and communication to the patient.

Planning: Photography (oral and portrait), scanning, smile design principles, digital facially driven wax-up, lab considerations.

Trial smile: Unique stent, evaluation, modification.

 

 

DAY 2

Preparation (or lack of): Shade taking, guides, preparation principles, retraction, scanning. (Will touch on conventional ceramic preparations – protocol can be applied to all).

Prototypes: aesthetic and functional evaluation, communication with lab.

Fit: Try-in, adjustment and seating of ceramic, isolation techniques, cementation process.

Course Objectives

  • Correctly assess the patient and produce an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Understand facially driven smile design and its application in practice and how to communicate this to the laboratory.
  • Understand how to correctly prepare prior to ceramic and provision of prototypes.

 

 

 

  • Learn how to reliably cement ceramic and ensure longevity.
  • Apply the GDC standards to maintain safe practice.
