This three year, part-time programme is for dental practitioners who want to improve their skills within the discipline of implant dentistry. This course provides exemplary one to one supervision within a private clinical practice setting alongside theoretical teaching to support you on your journey to become a confident implantologist.
A newly curated curriculum matches the purpose-designed Dental School located in Bristol city centre. Here, you will cover the basics of implant surgery science, restoration and surgical planning in the first year and build on this knowledge across the second year, with hands-on practical and simulation exercises to support your learning. In the third year you have the opportunity to complete a dissertation on the topic of your choosing.
We aim to produce caring, knowledgeable and skilful practitioners who are competent in the provision of the planning, surgical, restorative and maintenance aspects of dental implant treatment, within the limits of the individual clinician. Access outstanding resources through the Clinical Skills Suite at our new School and the Vesalius Clinical Training Unit.
Bench fees are charged for this programme (detailed below). The bench fees are to cover clinical costs, such as sourcing a patient for students to work on, materials for practical sessions and clinical supervised environment.
The first two years contain three units each, two of which are theory-based modules with hands-on sessions and one clinical module where patients are provided, spread over the academic year (September-July). They are designed to suit a working dentist seeking part-time studies.
Year 1 and 2 will require approximately 20 attendance days each, plus additional distance learning sessions and assessments. In year 3, you will work (distance learning) with a supervisor to complete a dissertation in a subject of your choice related to dental implants.
