Course Description

This course is aimed for dentists to fulfil the Level 1 (Core) CBCT training criteria set out in
the latest Dental Guidance notes and HPA guidelines.

You should apply for this course if you are:

• A dentist who wish to refer a patient for a CBCT
• A Dental Care Professional who wishes to take a CBCT

Learning Outcomes

The participants will be able to understand:

  • The CBCT equipment and how it works (Radiation physics)
  • The differences between CBCT, 2D imaging and CT
  • Radiation doses of CBCT in comparison to other modalities
  • Radiation protection and dose optimisation methods
  • Factors affecting the imaging quality and radiation dose
  • What scan parameters to select based on the clinical scenarios
  • Responsibilities of a CBCT referrer
  • Uses and limitations of CBCT imaging – case based discussion
  • Recognise the common artefacts and their clinical significance
  • The 3D anatomy of the teeth and the surrounding bone
  • Who should provide a radiological report
  • How to structure a good radiology report
